M.A.S.H. started out as a hit movie with Donald Sutherland, Elliott Gould, Tom Skerritt, Sally Kellerman and Robert Duvall. It later became one of the biggest and longest running TV shows in history, skyrocketing Alan Alda's career into icon status. It was about military doctors and nurses at a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in the Korean War. With very bloody hospital scenes and many martinis, wisecracking surgeons Hawkeye Pierce, Trapper John McIntyre (1972-1975) or later on Capt. B.J. Hunnicut (1975-1983) make it their business to embarrass Maj. Frank Burns and Major "Hot Lips" O'Houlihan. Loveable Radar O'Reilly (Gary Burghoff) was the only actor to carry on his role from the movie to the TV show. Klinger later replaced Radar as the company clerk. Charles is pictured here on the far left.

David Ogden Stiers played Charles Emmerson Winchester III on M.A.S.H. from 1977 to 1983. Charles was brought into the show to replace Frank Burns. Unlike Frank, Winchester did not really care for the Army and was a very highly skilled surgeon. He was also a Boston blue blood, so he was very snobbish, which put him into conflict with most of the other characters. He wasn't as much of a weasle as Frank, and once in a while showed that he was human too.
