Plot Summary
  This award winning comedy is centered around a freewheeling bachelor, Charlie (Charlie Sheen), whose carefree lifestyle is interrupted when his newly separated brother, Alan (Jon Cryer), moves in, along with Alan's son Jake. Charlie and his nephew form an "unsuspecting bond" with each other.

  In A Low, Guttural Tongue-Flapping Noise, Charlie throws a piece of toast in Alan's eye and has to drive him to work and Jake to school. Charlie meets Sherri at Starbucks and can't remember why he dumped her. Alan has trouble talking to her, but she gives him a date, to Charlie's complete surprise.

  In Bad News from the Clinic, Charlie meets his match when he falls for a woman who's better at playing hard to get than he is.

  The O.C. is about the wealthy ocean-side community of Newport Beach in Orange County, California. Ryan Atwood (Benjamin Mckenzie) is given a place to live by the Cohens and his arrival would change their lives forever.
- Charlotte Morgan was introduced to viewers in the season 3 episode The Aftermath as an alcohol addict, but in later episodes, it turned out she was a con artist. She tried to get money from Kirsten Cohen, Julie Cooper-Nichol and a fund-raiser where Charlotte planned to steal the donations, but failed when everybody was convinced to write checks With her plans foiled, she departed Newport.

Plot Summary
  James Spader and William Shatner are among a brigade of high-priced litigators at Crane, Poole and Schmidt. One of the founding law partners, Shirley Schmidt (Candice Bergen), has been coaxed back to the Boston law firm to help bring order to the chaotic office. The firm's other attorneys include Brad Chase (Mark Valley), and Paul Lewiston (Rene Auberjonois).

  In Spring Fever, Professor Cabot, gets caught with a prostitute. Marlene and Denise continue their fight for the spot to become partner. Denny takes Alan to LA, and Brad's niece is arrested at a drug party.

  In BL: Los Angeles, Alan Shore takes Courtney's attempted murder trial. Denise Bauer employs some back-stabbing techniques on co-worker Marlene Stanger (Parker Posey). And, after Brad Chase's sister fires him from defending his teenaged niece at her murder trial, the girl takes it upon herself to re-hire her uncle.
- Courtney Reese is a TV personality who was arrested after shooting a photographer that she mistakenly thought was a stalker. She was also the subject of many sexual advances by Denny Crane.

  Sebastian Stark (James Woods) is a charismatic, supremely self-confident defense attorney who brings his cutthroat tactics to the prosecutor's office as the head of the Los Angeles District Attorney's High Profile Crime Unit.
- Jessica Devlin is Shark’s DA boss and is the same person he beat and made look the fool in front of her voters. She doesn't care for him because of his brash, condescending attitude toward her office and has assigned him a group of young prosecutors that have their own strengths and drawbacks.
